3D

Although many 3D applications already exist, the technology is actually still in its infancy. The relevant technologies have not yet been fully developed, while more and more applications continue to appear.

At present, 3D is being used in architectural design coupled with planning and budgeting, data mining for petrochemicals, games and VR simulators for the medical and the military sectors, aviation, shipping and automotive sectors and of course, the film industry.

An unexpectedly heavy user is the agricultural sector, which eagerly embraces 3D technologies. Examples in the design of large stables and in the use of milking robots and other machinery for agriculture and animal husbandry. A company which has been using 3D technology and virtual reality for some time is Lely Industries, an established global player in Agrotechnology. One of Lely's products is an automated robot that allows farmers to milk their cows more efficiently. In practice, many farmers who wish to purchase a milking robot, need virtualisation of the impact of robots in their stables. There is no doubt that stables must be designed differently when a milking robot is acquired. Sales people at Lely go to farmers with handhelds that not only present a graphical 3D view of the stable, the milking robot and all the necessary peripherals, but that also indicates the optimal design.

This is just a small example of how 3D and virtual reality are being applied in everyday use. It is expected that the technology will be further developed, with a corresponding increase in the number of applications.

Agricultural Automation

Agricultural automation is a market in which Triodor is very active. Given the trend towards automation of this sector, Triodor is likely to become even more active here in the future.

The agricultural sector is characterised by declining employment. The reason is an ageing population and the fact that many older or exiting entrepreneurs are not being replaced by young people. The industry is clearly not attractive to them. Another reason for the declining employment is the continual technological innovation and automation in the field, which yields higher productivity, but redundant manpower. Paradoxically, further automation and robotics at the same time provide a solution for the problem of declining employment, especially in labour-intensive sub-sectors such as horticulture.

The agricultural sector is still growing and the demand for agricultural products is increasing strongly worldwide. The world population continues to grow and the expanding amount of livestock must be fed, but agricultural products also form the raw material for energy generation and other applications. ICT plays an essential role in this development.

Thanks to ICT, production in the Agrocomplex can be better organised: energy use in intensive livestock farming becomes more efficient, and the chain of supply, demand and stock in Agrilogistics (tracking and tracing) more streamlined. In addition, the implementation of precision farming with the use of fewer resources  results in higher yields. There are other applications, such as embedded software in dairy management robots, and applications that generate real-time dynamic reports on the state of affairs in, for instance pig farming.

In short, ICT is one of the major driving forces in the agricultural knowledge economy and will create new business applications, new skills and innovative products and services. With a solid track record in Agricultural Automation, Triodor will be at the forefront of these developments.

Businesscompleet.nl is the largest free knowledge network for SME entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. The business portal, which receives more than 100,000 visitors a month, offers businesses tools and documents to improve business management. Users can download example contracts for instance, or receive free advice on setting up a business. BusinessCompleet is an extensive portal and is kept up to date on a daily basis by a professional team of editors and marketers.

Customised CMS

Triodor developed a customised content management system (CMS) for BusinessCompleet. The demand for CMS is increasing explosively now that that every self-respecting company has a website it wishes to maintain itself. Outsourcing to a webmaster is still too expensive for many SMEs. BusinessCompleet offers its customers a user-friendly CMS developed by Triodor. For this purpose, BusinessCompleet makes use of one of our dedicated teams of .NET developers. The collaboration with BusinessCompleet is not purely technical, but is also a front-office venture for which the CMS systems are marketed together.

The future of mobile computing in the cloud

Mobile computing has grown significantly in recent years and it seems that this trend will continue in the future. The mobile market is now filled with smart phones and tablets that execute more and more of our everyday computing tasks such as e-mail and presentations. For the applications that cannot be run on smartphones or tablets, laptops fill the void. These are also becoming faster and lighter, so they can compete with desktops in terms of performance.

However, developments in mobile devices are still hampered by battery life. Batteries keep getting better, but with the installation of increasing numbers of multi-core processors and high-end graphics cards, the benefits of a better battery technology are often lost. It is obvious, while computing power and storage tend to double every few years, battery life is only extended by a few minutes with each new mobile hardware revision. In some cases, it only gets worse!

So what is the solution? In my opinion, the industry should abandon the idea of installing ever faster processors and high-performance graphics cards in our mobile devices. Instead, a cloud-approach should be used, whereby all the processing power and graphic rendering takes place on servers that are not dependent on a battery.

With the continuing evolution of wireless networks it will not be long before a really mobile cloud environment is available, where everything is virtualised and can simply be passed on to mobile devices. The amount of current that laptops, smartphones and tablets use can be reduced significantly, resulting in a dramatic increase in battery life.

These developments are creating a demand for customised software that offers many possibilities, but also requires security, a robust architecture and other important aspects. I foresee that Triodor will be able to meet this demand within a few years by providing excellent developers with the required skills.

Mark my words, it's only a matter of time before we start reducing the horsepower in our mobile devices in favor of longer battery life .

Building and Construction

In the near future, software will have an increasingly prominent place in the different building and construction sectors. Already, some IT applications have become crucial in daily construction practice. Examples are 3D simulation and programs like AutoCAD, which Architects, Achitectural Draughtsmen and Area Developers use to build virtual representations of objects. Another example is the software used to determine the load capacity of constructions. Add to this the many uses of software on a 'micro level': the machines used for construction, management reporting programs with which engineers keep track of the state of machinery, handhelds,  which supervisors use to check work progress and mobile communication tools that are used at big construction sites.

Software also plays a crucial role in finished objects. Take for example domotics     (home automation), where intelligent software controls the security devices against fire and intrusion, thermostats which control the indoor climate, energy efficient appliances, a refrigerator which places orders online to the supermarket, a tap that starts running by itself or a light that comes on automatically when the sensor detects motion. Domotics is not limited to private households or pure convenience, domotics are also suitable for healthcare environments. In clinics for the demented elderly, smart software can prevent a sliding door from opening when patients are identified to stop them from walking out into the street, while the same door lets other people pass through.

In short, software is here to stay, and as yet the end of new developments is not in sight. As manpower and resources become more scarce and work has to be done ever more efficiently, the demand for smart solutions will increase.  Smart solutions are indeed, part of Triodor's core business.

Content Management Systems and Web Shops

Content Management System (CMS) usually refers to management of the contents of web applications like blogs or portals. Most entrepreneurs and companies come across the term CMS, sooner or later. After all, modern companies today have a website and each website is filled with content.

Providing a site with content was previously outsourced to a third party, but these days many companies do it themselves. It is cheaper, since websites are no longer a static 'business card' of the company. A site must be dynamic and attractive to generate traffic and most importantly, have something to offer the visitors, such as news, special offers or interesting facts. Such sites require dynamic content that is preferably updated daily.

It is expensive to keep hiring an external webmaster, so most companies do it themselves. Technology makes it easy for them. Most CMS applications are user- friendly and easy to master. In the near future, they will be further simplified. Together with partner organizations, Triodor has been bringing CMS applications for small businesses on the market for several years. This has been a success, so CMS will remain part of our varied range of services.

CMS is also essential for entrepreneurs and companies that want to run a webshop. After all, a webshop is by definition a dynamic website, where different products are presented in virtual window displays as special offers, where new products or services are added and brought to the attention and old products sold off.

Concearn is an insurance subsidiary of Compliance Risk Management & Insurance (CRM) in Voorburg. CRM investigates the absenteeism culture in a company, analyzes the problems and offers solutions that decrease individual absenteeism. The company works closely with Bedrijfsarts.nl. CRM now works for twenty-five larger companies, mainly in building and construction, healthcare and IT. One of the customers is the Dutch Roofing Contractors Association (NDA), an umbrella organization of thirty companies that are too small to have their own Occupational Health Service, but too big to deal with absenteeism themselves. In short, these companies struggle with the complex issues of absenteeism and health services and the (abundant) legislation and regulations in this area. Concearn looks after personnel-related matters within the NDA.

Software plays an important role in the daily practice of Concearn. The software simplifies the inherenly bulky administration connected with human resources, and supports absence management and several other HR services.

Consultancy Companies

The world of consultants is rapidly changing due to the economic downturn. The consulting market is highly cyclical. A big shake out has taken place in a market that was characterised by a proliferation of new companies over the past decade. As such, it is not a bad development; two trends are particularly noteworthy.

Trends in Consultancy

In the first place, a further consolidation has taken place in which small firms have merged into larger companies and large parties cooperate more or even merge. This consolidation trend is not new; it started within the context of advancing globalization. An example is the merger between Andersen Consulting and Deloitte in 2002, which meant an impressive upscaling for both parties. The economic crisis may have reinforced this trend.

A second development is that the profession is becoming more specialised. The consultant who offers his services to any industry or sector, is no longer taken seriously. Every industry has its own specialist niche player. This is especially true for the sectors IT, Internet and e-commerce. Due to a sharp increase in demand for expertise, this type of consultancy has grown strongly. Automation and technological advances continue independent of the economy, so this is where Triodor is active.

IT-related organizational issues generally concern strategy, sourcing and operations, but also service and information management. This means that often customised tools are being developed with which the consultant helps customers measure and improve performance within the organization. Consultants very rarely have the required technical knowledge, so they work together with specialised software companies, like Triodor.

CRM en ERP

Almost every large company today, has an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. In the past, companies used different programs to support their business activities. Within an ERP program a large number of processes and departments may be managed. Product or customer information for example, need only to be fed into the system once to be widely accessible and retrievable in the organization, since a single database is used. Indeed, all business processes, including inventory systems, business administration and logistics are linked in such a way that all information gathered by the company, can be used by everyone.

Advantages and disadvantages of Enterprise Resource Planning

ERP systems have obvious advantages. They are cost effective, reduce the risk of inconsistent data, make work more efficient and improve communication, both internally (about customers) and externally (to customers).

There are some disadvantages, however. These are generally related to the implementation of the system and to the organization itself. Organizations and managers must be aware of the major changes that accompany the implemention of an ERP system. ERP software provides no added value without proper instructions for usage, or when maintenance of the functionality is neglected. Commitment, support, buy-in and supervision are required.

The software itself is generally sound. According to expectations, companies and organizations are likely to be working with ERP systems for the next few decades. Scale and cost-effectiveness have become preconditions for companies who wish to operate in a highly globalised playing field. Large companies often require integrated management of their administrattive processes or increasingly complex logistics. Triodor has built up a solid body of knowledge and best practices on the cutting edge of automated logistics and ERP systems, that we develop and maintain for various companies.

The most common definition of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is that of a process and a technology which optimises all contacts with customers.  Since its introduction in the 90's CRM has been the Holy Grail for companies and marketers that wish to maintain close contact with their customers. After all, CRM makes it possible to offer nearly every customer an individual value proposition based on his or her wishes. Today, a well-functioning CRM system is standard and has become a permanent feature of a modern business.

CRM Benefits

The benefits of effective CRM systems are a strong argument to legitimise their use. A CRM system provides insight into which customers are profitable and which are not, both as market segments and individually. It makes targeted actions possible and enables companies to carry out personalised campaigns. The pay-off is clear: marketing, sales and service processes become more efficient and cheaper. A second advantage is that companies gain insight into purchasing behavior, allowing cross-selling in a systematic way. Third, CRM may significantly improve the service level if an organization knows which customer contacts have occurred and what the outcomes were. Finally, CRM contributes to the development of sustainable relationships between business and customers.

At this stage, there are hundreds of CRM systems available in the Netherlands. As a rule, three different types of CRM are distinguished:

- Customer-touching applications where customers have direct contact with the application. An example is self-service.

- Customer-centric intelligence applications. These are applications that analyze the results of operational processes to improve CRM applications, such as data mining and data warehousing.

- Customer-facing applications, whereby the customer interacts with the company. An example is a call center or help desk.

There is a clear trend in CRM systems, both in the Netherlands and internationally. Increasingly, the systems are used online in an ASP/SaaS model. For both the online and offline versions of CRM, Triodor has a number of specialised professionals available. They currently work in one or more dedicated teams to develop customised CRM applications.

DUTCH DREAM FOUNDATION

Zehra Dogan (Coördinator)
Dutch Dream Foundation

The Dutch Dream Foundation came about as a direct result of the book 'Atilla's  Dutch Dream' that Atilla Aytekin wrote in 2006. The book is about his life and career and a new entrepreneurship between the Turkish and Dutch cultures.

The foundation focuses on the generation of 'new entrepreneurs', the children of migrants and other 'new Dutch citizens'. Through the foundation Triodor aims to inspire and encourage young people to start a business and to actively guide and support them. The message we send out is one of hope and passion, but also one of a willingness among young people to take risks and work hard to be successful. Triodor wants to be an example in this respect, which is why the Foundation organises seminars and presentations about starting up a business, carries out research, brings parties together and organises projects and meetings especially for young people. Triodor also offers free job training, guided tours of our offices and internships. We derive energy from these types of projects, because we believe  that business should have a a social aspect.

 DEDICATED TEAMS

Hıdır Aygül
Manager of Operations

"Dedicated teams are very important in understanding the business and processes of our customers "

Dedicated teams work on longer-term software projects we develop or manage. These are usually processes that are repetitive or that are still under further development. Continuity plays a leading role here. The development trajectory is usually part of the customer's business process and Triodor plays the part of an integrated supply chain partner.

What is a dedicated team?

A dedicated team is a professionally operating unit of analysts, developers, consultants and project managers. The team works exclusively for one client and forms an integral part of the client's business. Depending on the size, complexity and customer requirements, the team size varies from two to several dozen professionals. Dedicated teams not only develop applications, but also support and maintain existing systems and applications. Although our teams usually operate from Istanbul, customers have the opportunity of on-site sourcing. Team members then work temporarily at the customer's location. The advantage is that the customer gets to know our staff and our staff the customer, his business and business processes. All this at our attractive Turkish rates.

How is a dedicated team assembled?

The effectiveness of a dedicated team and the success of a long-term project are highly dependent on team composition. Triodor therefore puts much emphasis on the recruitment of team members and the formation of the teams.

The basis of each dedicated team is a manager of operations (MOP). The MOP is responsible for initiating the new team. The manager's job is to analyze the specifications of the work and on the basis of this compile the profiles of the required team members. With these profiles, our recruitment department starts  looking for candidates, firstly among the Triodor professionals currently available to be added to a dedicated team. If there are no Triodor engineers currently available, we then launch an external recruitment process.

If the customer agrees with the proposed team, the customer and manager of operations together formulate a work plan. We recommend that team members, and sometimes the whole team, work on-site during the initial phase of the project.  In this way, team members understand the business and business processes faster, and the customer gets a better idea of how the team operates. Finally, with on-site work the lines of communication are short, which promotes rapid feedback and decision making.

 Dedicated Teams?
A dedicated team focuses exclusively on one assignment

Lines of communication between team members and the client are short

Short lines lead to frequent and fruitful feedback

Possibility of on-site posting of team members or teams

On-site and 'embedded' dedicated teams ensure continuity

Embedded Software Development

Embedded software is software that is integrated into consumer goods or equipment, so that they show 'intelligent behavior'. The essence of an embedded system is that software is embedded into a hardware device.

The applications of embedded software are numerous and because chips are becoming cheaper and more flexible, more and more embedded systems are appearing on the market. Indeed without us knowing it, our daily life has become strewn with embedded applications: in ATMs, copying machines, industrial measuring equipment, robots, hospital equipment, cell phones, microwaves, washing machines, photographic equipment, consumer electronics and modern cars. There are however critical applications of embedded systems that we are not aware of every day, such as pacemakers, hearing aids, missiles, most operating systems in aircrafts  and the space and underwater industries. It is not surprising that the number of embedded software applications will continue to increase. Nor should we be surprised that Triodor Software has a solid foundation where the development of embedded software is concerned.

Properties of embedded systems

The explosion of embedded systems is largely due to five main features. First, embedded systems are heterogeneous. This means that embedded systems are able to communicate with different types of networks and other embedded systems.

Second, many embedded systems are economical. To operate economically, these systems can, for instance, run on energy from their surroundings, such as sunlight and body heat. Running economically is, in fact a prerequisite, since most embedded systems are not linked to electricity networks.

Reliability is the third feature. Embedded systems must function independently and reliably for a long time. A good example is the ABS function in cars, which in critical situations must not fail.

Also, embedded systems are mostly invisible. They are built into machinery or equipment, usually without the user's awareness. This is possible because embedded software is dealt with in a different way from a 'normal' computer. While the latter gets its instructions from humans via a keyboard or switch, an embedded system often responds automatically to the environment without human intervention. It uses sensors that analyze and then respond to voice, temperature or air quality.

Finally, embedded systems are flexible. Flexibility is important for embedded systems to adapt to individual user's needs or neighboring embedded systems. This again illustrates the importance of heterogeneity: an embedded system must be able to communicate with a neighboring system. The system can even be self-configuring.

The core business of Flucon is electronic counting of visitors in shops and malls and analysis of this data. Flucon in Alphen aan de Rijn is an internationally active logistics provider with branches in Germany and the United Kingdom. Over 35 staff members work daily on so-called Pedestrian Flow Monitoring and the worldwide sale of such customer counting systems. The use of automated customer counting, which often uses infrared and Bluetooth technology, is increasingly popular with retailers. Keeping track of store traffic is important for measuring conversion, duration of the visits, routing within a store, the impact of advertising and the fine tuning of human resources.

Flucon also provides communication systems of various kinds. The company was closely involved in the set-up of the first McDonalds branch in the Netherlands and has since supplied all the drive-through restaurants with telephonic ordering and communication systems. To other fast food chains like Burger King, KFC and Wok-to-Go, Flucon supplies various brands of communication systems.

An important component of a customer counting system is management report data. Without reporting, analysis of the collected data is not possible. For the development of management reporting tools Flucon works closely with Triodor. Triodor also set up a dedicated team for the further development and fine tuning of other Flucon software.

Although the association with games suggests the opposite, gaming is anything but childish. Gaming has in fact, become a mature industry in the Netherlands. After the U.S., Canada and Japan, the Netherlands too has become a major global player in the field, with a strong track record in innovation. Currently about 20 Dutch companies design games for game consoles like the Playstation, Xbox and Wii.

According to the researcher PricewaterhouseCoopers, sales of the global gaming industry will increase by about 40% to $ 73.5 billion between 2008 and 2013. The bulk of these sales will come from games, services and devices for game consoles. In this respect, the turnover of the game industry is similar to that of the film and music industries. The strongest growth will be in Europe, followed by Asia and only then the U.S. The biggest growth in money comes from online games, with global turnover increasing by 10% to € 13.7 billion in 2013.

Triodor is also active in the gaming industry. Our developers design and develop games and software for the websites www.oyungemisi.com and www.spele.nl, both providers of online games.

Industrial Automation

It may sound strange, but today's industrial automation is really still in its infancy. Software is used almost exclusively in industrial robots, PLCs, SCADA and MES applications.

Five trends are unmistakable in the market of industrial automation. For example, wireless monitoring is becoming cheaper and easier. Soon, an employee of your utility company no longer rings your doorbell, but reads the meter in your home from his car. Another trend is machine-to-machine communication merging with the Internet. Equipment is operated and managed online. Examples are the 'smart' home that automatically alerts the police via a modem in case of burglary, and the candy machine that signals the supplier when stocks of snacks are low. The importance of safety in industrial security systems also increases as processes become more complex and the number of transfer moments increases; they actually become more sensitive to technical faults. A fourth trend is the need to optimise automation, causing the emergence of more complex adaptive systems to improve the performance of automated systems. Finally, software 'disappears' because it is integrated into more and more products.

The latter happens increasingly to our customers. The only external software requirements are in the internet browser. The rest of the software are applets and client-side applications, which are activated by objects and agents built into the system.

In addition, significant new software applications will often be built into wireless sensors and distributed through peer-to-peer networks. They form small operating systems in wireless sensors and software that allows these sensors to communicate with each other, as a large complex adaptive system. This is the future, and Triodor is acting on it now.

Logistics and Retail

Logistics plays a crucial role in today's economy. It varies from logistics at a macro level such as the container traffic to and from the 'Tweede Maasvlakte' near the Rotterdam harbour, to supplying retailers from a local distribution center and the internal logistics within companies. In turn, IT plays a crucial role in any form of modern logistics at every level. These are not just applications that support logistics processes and enable and facilitate systems, but also the software logistics systems themselves.

A good example is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Almost every large company today has an ERP system, to implement a comprehensive and centralised administration, or to keep stock inventories. The advantage of an ERP program is that a large number of processes or departments can be accommodated. In addition, data such as product or customer-related information, need be entered only once because a single database is used. Other frequently mentioned benefits of ERP systems are better communication, cost reduction and a more efficient way of working.

MD Info

For about 30 years MD Info has been providing personalised financial and economic news to the business world. It offers news and information about industries, companies, products and market trends. The company's own editors read hundreds of daily newspapers, journals, magazines, newsletters and websites, select newsworthy articles and summarise these in clear abstracts with detailed subject codes. The information is included in a database, from which customer solutions are offered, mostly via intranets of larger knowledge-intensive organizations such as ABN Amro Bank, Atos Origin, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Capgemini. MD Info's database now contains over 300,000 summaries with the corresponding full text articles and personal information profiles of some 20,000 customers. What makes the system exceptional is its ability to deliver detailed customization: the right information at the right time for the right person.

MD Info also provides complex database links to specific business environments, uses more and more more web-based solutions and provides numerous sites with current and targeted content.

The technological challenge

To be able to provide customers with high quality services, the editors of MD Info need a content management system with more than the usual functionalities. Moreover, the link to customer environments and websites is not only very knowledge-intensive, it is also highly dynamic. The technology is constantly changing and therefore requires a high knowledge level of its IT developers. Previously, MD Info was able to develop and maintain IT platforms in-house, but it is increasingly difficult to find, train and retain skilled software developers in the Netherlands. For a relatively small organization like MD Info, this presented an unacceptable commercial risk, since the IT solution is directly connected to the primary business process.

The solution of Triodor Software

MD decided to outsource the development and maintenance of its software platforms. After intensive market research in the Netherlands, India and Eastern Europe, Triodor Software was found to be the ideal IT partner. Triodor allocated a dedicated team that presently still continues to function. The team consists of three English-speaking software developers with extensive knowledge and experience with .Net, C##, ASP and all related technologies. A project manager oversees the content quality and delivery as agreed upon and on schedule. The team now has over two years of experience at MD Info and has in fact, become fully integrated in the virtual organization.

MD about Triodor

MD Info director Hikmet Cosgun: "Thanks to Triodor the continuity of the company is secured. At the same time certain applications are being further developed. It is not only our information that is important to customers, but also the way that information reaches them. Indeed, the technical interface is almost equally important. Ease of use for the customer gives us a competitive advantage."

Mobiel

Everything is becoming mobile. While the cell phone was only used to make calls or send a text message a few years ago, the technology has developed so rapidly that the mobile phone of today has actually become a mini-PC. For many people an indispensable mini-PC. New generations of mobile phones have become complete portals used for telephone calls, to send and receive e-mails and texting, to view video messages, listen to music, browse on the internet, collect and transfer information and watch television. For both the private and the corporate user, the cell phone is indispensable, and there is no escaping the need for mobile applications.

The market is now flooded with mobile products, services and apps and the industry of mobile applications will certainly develop further at high speed. For businesses, the future of mobile applications presents attractive opportunities.

Trends mobile Industry

Triodor has identified several trends for the mobile applications market and industry  for the coming years.

Micro-payments for example, will really take off. Fewer and fewer people will pay cash or use debit cards or chip cards for payments. Instead, is will be customary to pay by mobile phone, either by a realtime money transfer, or by holding the phone in front of a scanner.

In view of the declining effectiveness of traditional advertising, due to the increasing time people spend using their mobile phones rather than radio and television, mobile advertising is becoming increasingly interesting for commercial parties. There is a guaranteed coverage, the ads can be highly personalised and the results of a marketing activity are directly measurable.

The market for apps for the mobile phone will continue to grow, especially the corporate market.

Location-based technologies are becoming more sophisticated and user-friendly. Such so-called locative technologies enable people to position themselves and others in a specific geographic location and to link information to a particular location.

The same goes for technologies and applications specifically aimed at social media environments such as Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. As the use of social media increases and social media platforms and environments expand and become more sophisticated, so will the number of social media technologies.

Another development concerns the technology of augmented reality. This technology involves mainly the realistic addition of computer-generated images to direct, real-time images. Instead of showing information (or advertisements) on traditional and isolated screens, the data are projected into the field of vision of the user.

A final, and perhaps most important trend is the much improved security for applications and technologies that are the driving force behind these developments, and which make scaleable commercialization possible.

In conclusion, a lot is happening in the market for mobile applications. Because mobile technology is relatively new, there are few experienced developers in this area. Fortunately, Triodor is highly successful in finding and retaining these professionals. It would be our pleasure to tell you why.

Nederlandse Dakdekkers Associatie (NDA)

The Nederlandse Dakdekkers Associatie (Dutch Roofers Association NDA) is an organization of Dutch roofing companies. The NDA was established in 1981 at the initiative of a number of roofing companies, with the objective of supporting the interests of its members and to guarantee their quality and service. The NDA has now become a national network of affiliated companies with a head office in Almere. The NDA is involved in various activities such as procurement, marketing, development and technology. The continuous improvement of craftsmanship, products and techniques plays a central role.

The challenge

The NDA is increasingly faced with the need to optimise its processes and services and to give maximum support for innovation in the industry. After all, there is a growing demand from both society and the market for energy conservation and sustainability. Roofs play a important role in this respect. The materials used and the way a roof is built and maintained, largely determines how CO2-neutral and cost-saving a particular household is. This requires continuous innovation of products and processes in the roofing industry where automation plays a crucial role.

Since cooperation between the NDA members must be optimal, this requires a shared IT infrastructure. A cleverly constructed infrastructure not only offers advantages in terms of efficiency, durability and cost, it also simplifies the process of preventive control.

The solution of Triodor Software

After a thorough market investigation, NDA turned to Triodor for preliminary research and a business plan. NDA was so enthusiastic that the organization chose to establish a joint venture with Triodor. Triodor then formed a dedicated team consisting of three English-speaking software developers with extensive knowledge and experience with .NET, C ##, ASP and all related technologies. A project manager supervised the quality of the work and deliveries as per planning and agreement. The team has now been working forthe NDA for over two years and is actually fully incorporated and integrated into the virtual organization.

NDA on Triodor

NDA Director Dirk Lahuis: "Triodor has people who deal with issues pragmatically and are down to earth. I addition, they kept working until both parties were satisfied with the finished product.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) will start selling a white version of its iPhone 4 in the next few weeks, following a delay of 10 months, according to three people with knowledge of the plans.
The new model will be available from AT&T Inc. (T) and Verizon Wireless by the end of April, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t public. The release was stalled as Apple resolved manufacturing challenges, including paint that peeled under heat, one person said.

Adding a white model may help spur demand as Apple works on the next generation of its top-selling product. Apple, the world’s largest technology company by market value, isn’t planning to unveil a new iPhone at its June developers’ conference, breaking with its practice in past years, two people familiar with the matter said. It may instead introduce the next iPhone in September, according to Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

After releasing the iPhone 4 in June, Apple announced the delay of the white version, citing unspecified manufacturing trouble. Complications with a sensor used in the device was one difficulty, one of the people said. Until now, it’s only been available in black.

Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship

New Beginning

Development Center in Turkey as R&D Center

Triodor runs its development activities through its offices in Istanbul, Turkey. The location was not chosen at random, outsourcing through nearshoring in Turkey is in fact an attractive option for several reasons.

Staff Quality

The quality of our Turkish staff is high. This is primarily due to the high level of education at Turkish universities and other educational institutions, but it also reflects the Turkish mentality and morale. Our Turkish IT staff and students are ambitious, motivated and career oriented and are strongly committed to loyalty to their employers. In recent years more and more graduates and students prove to have a noticeably good command of English. What is also striking is the growing popularity of technical studies and computer science.

High availability of human capital

Turkey has almost 79 million inhabitants of which 65% is younger than 34 years. With an average age of 29, Turkey has a very young and rapidly growing population. Annually, almost 1 million new students are registered at the universities and the labour market grows by 400,000 graduates a year. Turkey therefore offers the business world a wide range of highly skilled workers.

Cost advantages

The Turkish economy is increasingly converging with that of the EU. Gross Domestic Product grew by 7.3% last year, of which the services industry accounted for 65.7%. Turkey has in recent years, become the emerging economy in the European backyard. Nevertheless, living standards are still relatively low. The same applies to salaries, which are modest according to Western European standards. This enables Triodor to offer its customers competitive rates that can easily compete with other nearshoring locations in Eastern and Central Europe.

Advantageous location

While the world gets smaller every day, Turkey is still closer to European markets then offshore locations like India or Uganda, both geographically and culturally. This has several important implications for collaboration. It allows for communication between the various parties in the chain to be more flexible due to the cultural proximity. Due to the short geographic distances between us and our customers, it is also relatively easy and inexpensive to meet each other in person when necessary. A final advantage is the small time difference between Turkey and the rest of Europe, which makes the lines between us and our customers even shorter.

Extensive experience in the own market
Turkey has an extensive 'body of knowledge' where IT applications are concerned. Indeed, the country has a large internal market and a very large hinterland with many IT-related industries like banking, automotive, textile and agriculture. This means that service providers in Turkey, in addition to their academic knowledge, also have considerable practical experience in the market to advise and provide service for their clients. It distinguishes Turkey from other nearshoring locations such as Ukraine and Serbia. These countries are well-equipped for IT nearshoring, but they lack in-depth experience for the simple reason that they have few industries in which IT plays a key role.

Stability

Finally, Turkey is a stable country. Not only has it been a member of NATO since 1952 and of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) since 1961, Turkey is also an official candidate for membership of the EU. The Turkish economy is therefore becoming increasingly integrated with Western Europe. Turkey is now the sixth economy in the EU and the thirteenth most attractive country for foreign investors.

Ovotrack

Ovotrack is a unique tracking system for egg packaging plants. The system keeps track of eggs from the poultry farm through the sorting and packaging process to the distribution centers of the retailers. A result, each pallet of eggs can be followed to the stores where the eggs are eventually sold. They can also be traced backwards: each individual egg on the shelf has a known origin. Besides traceability from farm to shop floor and back, Ovotrack also offers stock management and labeling from boxes to full pallets of eggs. Ovotrack's solutions are usually coupled to customers' sorting and packaging machines and ERP systems. Ovotrack has so far installed facilities in nine countries in Europe, the U.S. and Canada. Ovotrack,North America in Michigan was founded in 2009, to provide better service to the American and Canadian markets.

The technological challenge

The original version of Ovotrack was a module developed in 2002 in Visual Basic. In subsequent years many others modules were added. This created an unstructured code that complicated the controllability of the Ovotrack applications. In 2007 the Ovotrack management decided therefore, to redevelop the application in a professional way in a .NET environment. Their own development team did not have the capacity (both quantitative and qualitative) necessary to realise the redevelopment independently. In view of the tight market for IT service management Ovotrack decided to outsource. Initially, the outsourcing strategy focused on India, but it soon became clear that major cultural differences, the time difference with India and the language barrier seriously hampered the decision-making process. Ovotrack then sought an outsourcing partner closer to home and found Triodor.

Triodor Software solution

Triodor then delivered a business analysis within one month. The core of Triodors approach consisted of a dedicated team of four software developers in Istanbul who worked exclusively for Ovotrack. The applied scrum method gave Ovotrack continuous information about the current state of affairs. Although the team was led by a professional project manager in Istanbul, the management in Triodor's Amsterdam office was the point of contact. Ovotrack has since decided to transfer the software support activities to the Turkish Triodor Development Center. The team will therefore continue on, even after completion of Ovotrack 3.

Ovotrack about Triodor

COO of Ovotrack Henk Beekhuis: 'The partnership with Triodor is the best thing that ever happened to us. We benefit from the technological knowledge in Istanbul and all innovations in IT. Our development capacity has suddenly become scalable. We can now focus on inventing new applications that will make money for us and our customers.

Ovotrack BV

Ovotrack in Leersum, founded by the brothers Beekhuis, is a global supplier of Tracking & Tracing software for egg packaging plants around the world. The software tracks eggs during selection and packaging and supplies them with a code that can trace each individual egg, from farm to shop floor and back. The accurate tracking of dairy products is required by law in an increasing number of countries, after numerous product contamination scandals.

Tracking & Tracing is a niche market with huge potential, which is partly why Triodor acquired a share in Ovotrack in 2009. Ovotrack is now better able to achieve the desired international scale that befits a market leader. Triodor has been working with Ovotrack for some time in the development and maintenance of the software for egg packaging plants.

Projects

Many of our customers require customised solutions. This makes sense: not every problem is the same and every organization is different. Customization is the rule rather than the exception and Triodor's projects are set up for this purpose. Our projects are well-defined pieces of functionality based on a business analysis that reveals the needs and problems of our customers and on which budgets can be based and development trajectories agreed upon in advance.

Process within projects

We analyze the automation requirements of our customer. Once the question or problem has become clear, we propose a detailed project plan with an accompanying budget. If we get a green light, we set up a specialised project team and start the development process. The project team focuses on information analysis, technical analysis, database design, development, a test phase and implementation. Only when we reach full agreement with the customerr, is the project carried out.

In more detail our approach is as follows:

We start with a brief analysis for budgeting. With a large or more complex project, a business analysis is first made. Once the contours of the problem or automation needs have become clear, a budget is assigned in terms of development time and costs. If the customer agrees, the project team starts with a detailed analysis that leads to a functional analysis, describing in detail what features will be built and how much time and money are allocated to each function.

If the project team gets a green light for this functional analysis, a development plan is drawn up and the actual development is initiated.

The development method we use most often is called scrum. With scrum, every function is split into smaller functional parts (called stories) that are separately developed, tested and delivered.

The technical delivery is followed by an acceptance test and acceptance of the system. After thorough instructions or training the system is then handed over to end users.
